My girl An airplane sketchbook doodle I'm just back from a week in Texas (photos coming soon) and although I had a blast there are a couple of people and a furry little one that were hard to be apart from.. I'm hoping to find ways to take her in the future but sometimes it's just not practical... Sitting still while her mummy paints for hours on end is not an easy task for an active 6 year old. I'd taken some photos (at her request) before leaving and so had some up my sleeve to play with on the plane and entertain the air stewards 😆 I never get bored of drawing this face and although my sketchbook doodles are usually kept private I thought I'd share this one with you 💙🤍

NEWS! So I'm just home from painting and hanging out with friends in Inverness.... yes I forgot to take photos...again.... this one was taken by some lovely folk at @kc.missionschool so its my stand in 🤣🤣 ANYWAY - in 10 days(ish) I'll be on my way to Texas to paint live at an even with @streamscreativehouse Yes.. actual TEXAS!!! No I can't believe it either! In the background I'm busy prepping art to bring, organisong supplies etc. It'll be the first time I'll have painted live in another country after doing I think around 30 around the UK over the past few years. Proof of life post 😄 Before I get into it I finally ordered one of my own tshirts and have to say I'm pretty chuffed! Lovely soft material and nice and long! I'm wearing a Medium here and am usually a UK 12. So back to it! For those of you who don't know me here's some stuff that you might like to know: I have a husband and a little girl and a dog (who couldnt help but get involved in the pic..) and we live in a beautiful wee village in Aberdeenshire. When I'm not 'Artist-ing' I'm a Project Manager with a particular interest in improvement methodogies (if you want me to geek out about something other than art - that's the thing to start me on 😄) Although I've been making art and exhibiting for over 20 years it's only the past year or so that I've been in a position to do this as a proper part time job. Before that lots of life was happening! This year a lot of life has been happening too! As it has a tendency to do... but some super cool things have been going on around art in particular. When I started my 30 day challenge focused on HOPE I did what I could to make space for glitches but then looking after the family too priority. They're all fine now but too much time passed and now I'm in prep mode for some imminent adventures! (Watch this space!) You might think it's silly cos it's only a wee self inflicted challenge but I genuinely am gutted I didn't finish... for completely pride based reasons... But you know what!? That stint of hope came at just the right time, just when I really needed it, prepping for the lurgy fuelled blip that brought with it more than I'm willing to share on here. But HOPE. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Fill up that tank in the easier times so you have it when you need it. But ultimately this is an apology to all of you who were following along and a thank you! My brother 8x10 oil on cradled board with gold underlay 3 years since I posted this - time flies! This was painted as a present for my Gran on her 80th as my brother couldn't make it up for the party. I then took a photo of it, layered the main reference image ontop and did a wee reveal on an ipad.... just for fun... Oil paintings are notoriously hard to photograph well and the depth the paint gives can only be seen in real life. Yes it's very similar but there are so many other factors I pulled from, little nods to how he often has pink hair for example 😉 The one thing that stands out most in my memory of this is that the next time I saw him he'd shaved off the beard!! Break! Up till now I've been a little ahead of myself to give time for editing, unforseen circumstances etc But schools went back this week and there's a lurgy about so that's used up the wiggle room Hope isn't gone, and will return soon because one of my most important sources of hope - my family - comes before daily art and posting 😉

Little Stack of Hope: DAY 18 Butterflies Ive explained before why butterflies mean hope but they also remind me of childhood play... Collecting caterpillars from my Grandma's blackcurrant bushes and the glee of finding a chrysalis. Painting with my Mum filding paper in half and squishing pages of splodgey paint together to make symmetrical colour explosions. They were a noteable part of my early years and remind me of how happy a time it was filled with people who loved me. They continued to love me through the yucky sludge of teenage years where I made that a lot harder to do. But they had hope, they could see that that was a season of transition and wouldnt last forever. I havent reached that particular parenting 'tunnel' yet but you can be sure that when it arrives I'll be holding onto the hope that Mini Middleton will come through. Bonus HOPE! 'Glory' 24x24" Acrylic on canvas Painted live a week past last Saturday night. Mr Middleton was away drumming and rocking in a field in England (Bloodstock festival) so Mini Middleton, a friend we'll call the Queen Mother and I decided to have a painty road trip. Some friends I love hearing and don't see often were speaking and music-ing so it was no brainer. Google took us a merry 90minute jaunt which in the end made for a shortsome journey and honestly Mini M and the Queen M make for crackin chat anyway so we had a great time. This is the painting I did and as usual I want to know what you see in it!?! [For those of you who are newer here live painting at events like this usually are collaboration between the music, art and spirituality. I prep and pray before, (often weeks before, sometimes sketching, painting etc as part of that prep) during and after, tuning into what's going on in the space, town etc and, when there, the corporate experience. I'm a Christian and belive that God speaks to people through the Holy Spirit so I ask Him what He's saying and paint what I hear or feel. It's not really any different to what the worship leaders or preacher's do it's just that I don't use music or words (mostly 😆). ] We had a table set up at the side for others to paint/draw so Mini M and I finished up the evening there and alround had a ball! Super cute moment - the painting I shared that she did recently was inspired by this one. Honestly her response to it of "Wow Mummy, that's amazing!" will keep me going for a few years at least... She's a harsh critic and knows her mind! 😳😂🥰 So! What does this one say to you?... No wrong answers exist cos it's art!! Little Stack of Hope: DAY 17 Tell me you grew up by the sea without telling me you grew up by the sea.... 🤣 3 of these have been sea themed so far.... not including the sunrises over the sea... The salt air seeps into your perception of the world. Its given me a healthy respect for the elements and when things feel too big in life I seek it out to remind me how small they are, and I am, in the scheme of things. That in itself brings hope but this picture was about something else. I find hope in the knowledge that we dont know everything about everything. That there are still new things to discover and explore. Sometimes when I'm painting I can feel like Im deep out at sea, completely out my depth but usually, if I keep going, I find something magical in that space. Like some kind of aquatic creative flow 😆 If you know you know and its hard to explain but when you allow yourself to go deep, to be vulnerable and open enough to catch that wave it's like nothing else. Its something I didnt learn at art school, or by watching tutorials or reading books, it came from turning up again and again and again.
